«I need to stop»: Michael Douglas announces the end of his film career

He dedicated 60 years to cinema!
Hollywood actor and producer Michael Douglas has announced that he no longer plans to act in films. The 80-year-old star shared the news during a press conference at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, according to Variety.
«I haven’t worked since 2022, probably because I realized that I need to stop», he said.

Douglas, a two-time Oscar winner and one of the most influential actors of his generation, admitted that he has worked actively in the film industry for 60 years, but now feels it’s time to wrap things up. According to him, he doesn’t want to be one of those who literally «dies on set»:
«I’ve worked very hard for almost 60 years, and I don’t want to be one of those who drops dead on a film set. I have no intention of coming back».

However, Michael added that he might return to the screen if a truly exceptional script comes along. Still, he’s not very optimistic about that possibility:
«I say I’m not retired, because if something special comes up, I’ll come back – otherwise, no», the actor added.
Right now, Douglas joked, his main role is «playing the wife» of his famous partner Catherine Zeta-Jones.
