«Grey’s Anatomy» and «Euphoria» Star Eric Dane Dies

He Was Only 53
American actor Eric Dane, who rose to widespread fame for his roles in the television series «Grey’s Anatomy» and «Euphoria», has died at the age of 53 following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The actor’s family confirmed the news, People reports: «It is with heavy hearts that we announce Eric passed away after a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by his devoted wife, two beautiful daughters, and close friends.»

Dane learned of his diagnosis last year after noticing the first alarming symptoms, including weakness in his arm. Despite his illness, he continued working on set. However, the disease progressed rapidly and significantly affected his condition. By June 2025, he had completely lost the function of his right arm; by autumn, he had nearly lost his ability to speak; and since October, he had been using a wheelchair.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that gradually leads to paralysis and the loss of vital bodily functions. ALS currently remains without a cure, and in most cases patients live between three and five years after diagnosis. However, British physicist Stephen Hawking lived with ALS for more than 50 years and is considered a record-holder for longevity with the disease.
The actor is survived by his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, 16-year-old Billie and 14-year-old Georgia.
