Gérard Depardieu found guilty of sexual assault

18 months suspended sentence
A French court has found Gérard Depardieu guilty of sexually assaulting two women who brought charges against him. The 76-year-old actor was sentenced to 18 months of suspended imprisonment.
The incidents occurred in September 2021 during the filming of «The Green Shutters». The plaintiffs were a set designer and an assistant director. Depardieu played the lead role in the movie.
The trial lasted two months. This is the first case against the actor that has reached court, although around 20 women have accused him of inappropriate behavior.

Depardieu himself did not admit guilt. In court, he claimed he grabbed a colleague by the buttocks to avoid slipping. He said he shook another woman because «he was angry about an unprepared scene».
«My name has been tarnished by lies and insults. A trial can be a very unique experience for an actor. Seeing all this anger, the police, the press. It’s like a science fiction film, except it’s not science fiction. It’s life», the actor emphasized.
