Gary Oldman Knighted

The Highest Honor
Hollywood legend Gary Oldman has received one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious distinctions — a knighthood.

The decision was made back in June by King Charles III, and today the ceremony took place at Windsor Castle, where Prince William, on behalf of his father, conferred the honor upon the actor.

The 67-year-old Academy Award winner was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the dramatic arts. Newly minted Sir Gary Oldman is celebrated for his remarkable versatility, having portrayed dozens of iconic roles — from Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour to Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols and Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg in The Fifth Element.

During the ceremony, the Prince of Wales admitted he had long been an admirer of the star’s work, according to The Independent.
«I feel deeply moved, humbled, and at the same time utterly thrilled. It’s incredible. I always thought the Oscar was the pinnacle of recognition. But, with no offense to the Academy, this surpasses everything. It’s simply overwhelming,» the actor said after receiving the honor.
