Eminem reveals for the first time what made him overcome drug addiction

Turning point
Legendary American rapper Eminem has for the first time openly shared what pushed him toward recovery from drug addiction. In his new documentary «Stans», Eminem recalled how, up until 2008, he lived in deep depression and abused prescription drugs, until an overdose sent him to the hospital.
The turning point was the birthday of his daughter Hailie Jade, which the rapper missed because of drugs.
«I was crying because it was like: «Oh my God, I missed it [the birthday].» I kept telling myself: «Do you want to miss this again? Do you want to miss everything? If you can’t do it for yourself, then damn it, do it for them [your family],» admitted the 52-year-old artist.
Seventeen years have passed since then, and the rapper has remained sober. Today, his daughter is 29, and she recently became a mother for the first time — her son was named after his grandfather, Elliott Marshall.
The musician’s story of struggle is part of his documentary «Stans», in which Eminem served as producer. The film was released on August 7, but it could only be seen in cinemas for one weekend. The movie combines candid and touching moments with comic episodes, with its main focus on the rapper’s career through the eyes of his most devoted fans.
The inspiration for the film came from the song «Stan» (2000), which tells the story of an obsessive fan and became so iconic that in 2017 the word «stan» was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
