On January 20, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. The ceremony was led by Chief Justice John Roberts. The Republican recited the traditional oath of office with his hand on both his family Bible and Abraham Lincoln’s Bible.
«I solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States,» Trump stated.

At the same time, James David Vance officially took the oath as Vice President in Trump’s new administration.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the rotunda of the Capitol building — the first time in 40 years it was held indoors.
Before the event, Trump and his wife Melania visited the White House for the traditional tea with outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

As is tradition, the new President delivered an inaugural address outlining the «key priorities» of his administration and declaring the start of a «Golden Age for America.»
«From this day forward, our nation will prosper and regain respect worldwide. We will become the envy of other nations and will no longer allow ourselves to be taken advantage of,» Trump stated.

Trump announced plans to declare a state of emergency at the southern border to stop what he called an «invasion» of illegal migrants. He also pledged to send military forces to the southern border.
Additionally, Trump promised to declare an energy emergency and launch a national program to drill new oil fields. He vowed to combat rising prices and inflation.
The President also pledged to shift taxation away from American citizens by imposing tariffs and taxes on foreign nations. He proposed creating an external tax service to collect all tariffs, duties, and revenues, which he claimed would generate «huge sums of money from foreign sources.»
Trump further vowed to end «state censorship» and restore freedom of speech. He also declared that from now on, the United States would recognize only two genders — male and female.
Following the ceremony, Trump signed his first executive orders and appointments in a special room at Congress.
Notably, Donald Trump became the second U.S. president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms. By the end of his second term, he will be 82 years old, making him the oldest president in U.S. history.
