Directed Madonna’s iconic videos: filmmaker James Foley has died

After a long battle with cancer
American director James Foley, known for his work in both music and film, has died at the age of 71. According to a family representative, Foley passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles following a long battle with brain cancer, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Foley directed numerous landmark projects, including the crime drama «Glengarry Glen Ross» starring Al Pacino and Jack Lemmon, the thriller «Fear» with Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon, and episodes of hit series such as «Twin Peaks», «House of Cards», and «Billions».
A key highlight of his later career was directing two films in the “Fifty Shades of Grey» trilogy, which brought him widespread recognition in a new generation.

Beyond his film work, James Foley was a major figure in shaping the music video landscape of the 1980s. His collaborations with Madonna became iconic, setting new standards for the industry at the time. Among his most notable videos are «Live to Tell», «True Blue», and «Papa Don’t Preach». He also directed her in the feature film «Who’s That Girl».
Throughout his career, Foley worked with acclaimed stars such as Dustin Hoffman, Rachel Weisz, and Gene Hackman. His distinctive style and ability to portray complex characters made him one of the most influential voices in American cinema.
