Avoids life imprisonment

American rapper and producer Sean Combs, also known as the controversial P. Diddy, has avoided life imprisonment. After 13 hours of deliberation, a jury at the Manhattan federal court acquitted the 55-year-old artist of the most serious charges brought against him — human trafficking and the formation of a criminal organization.

At the same time, the rapper was found guilty on two counts of transporting individuals for the purpose of prostitution. While these charges are less severe, each still carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, according to The New York Times.

The trial lasted nearly two months, during which more than 30 individuals testified, including the rapper’s ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie, as well as hotel security staff where the infamous parties allegedly took place. However, the musician’s defense — that all sexual relations were consensual and that the accusations stemmed from emotional distress and personal conflicts — proved more convincing than the prosecution’s evidence.

Despite this, the judge denied the request to release the rapper on bail. P. Diddy remains in custody until October, when a final hearing on his sentencing is scheduled.
