Beyoncé named star of the century by Billboard

But she didn’t make Spotify’s top list!
One of the world’s most respected music publications, Billboard, has recognized Beyoncé as the greatest pop star of the 21st century. Despite controversies and conspiracy theories surrounding her connections with P. Diddy, the artist was awarded first place for her evolution, innovative approaches, and unparalleled contribution to the music industry and culture over the past 25 years.
For example, Beyoncé holds the record for the most Grammy awards (she has 32), eight of her albums have topped the Billboard 200 chart, and the 43-year-old artist has been nominated for an impressive 11 categories at the 2025 Grammys.
Pop icon Taylor Swift also vied for the top spot, but the compilers of the ranking awarded the blonde singer second place.
«While Taylor Swift is the century’s biggest pop star by metrics, Beyoncé tops our ranking, compiled by the editorial staff based on her 25-year impact, influence, and evolution», — Billboard stated, adding that Beyoncé is the ultimate symbol of innovation and excellence in pop music, highlighting her unmatched style.
In addition to her, Billboard’s list of the century’s greatest pop stars includes 24 other artists. Rihanna rounds out the top three, Lady Gaga landed in fifth place behind Drake, Adele took the 10th spot, and Katy Perry closed the list. Other names on the list include Britney Spears, Kanye West, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Eminem, Jay-Z, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus, and Bruno Mars.
Interestingly, in Spotify’s ranking, Taylor Swift was named the most popular artist, while Beyoncé didn’t even make the top 10, sparking mixed reactions online.
