Battle of the looks: Emma Stone and Gwyneth Paltrow in DKNY

An iconic ensemble
Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in New York as part of the promotion for her new film Bugonia. On her way to the interview, the 36-year-old star was spotted by paparazzi wearing a striking emerald-green silk ensemble – a skirt and blouse by Donna Karan New York.
Stone’s choice came as a surprise: she usually favors Louis Vuitton, a house she has collaborated with for years.
Before her, Gwyneth Paltrow wore the very same outfit in the 1998 film Great Expectations – the cinematic adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic novel.
In an interview with Vogue in April 2021, Paltrow revealed why the outfit became so iconic:
«It was a Donna Karan piece. Almost everything I wore in the film came from her. At my first meeting with the costume designer, I was told that everything in the movie would be green – every set, every fabric, every costume. I thought he was joking. But then I remembered Donna had a very ‘green’ collection, and it all fit perfectly – elegant, very nineties, and ideal for my character. It’s funny that the look still gets so much attention. I suppose it’s partly because the scene was very sensual – Ethan and I are sort of kissing by the fountain. It was one of the high points of my career», the actress shared.
The look stands as a beautiful homage to both fashion and cinema – especially since it suits both actresses with equal grace. Don’t you agree?
