Austrian author Thomas Brezina celebrates 9th wedding anniversary with husband

A heartfelt tribute

Renowned Austrian writer Thomas Brezina has shared a personal moment — he and his husband Ivo are celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary. The couple officially married nine years ago in London, as Austria did not yet allow same-sex marriages at the time. The ceremony was held in the presence of close friends and family.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Brezina shared archival photos and reflected on their journey together:

«Today we are celebrating 9 years of marriage. And when I look back on that day, I realize: our friendship, our understanding, our love — none of it can be taken for granted. It has grown. And we’ve grown with it.»

He also quoted his 107-year-old friend Liesl: «If it fits, you legalize it.» Brezina noted that she was absolutely right.

Despite a recent wave of homophobic backlash following the release of a video featuring the couple, Thomas Brezina has not allowed the hate to dampen his spirit — he continues to openly express his love and support.
