Assistant director of «Emily in Paris» Diego Borella dies during filming

Tragedy on set
The filming of the new season of Emily in Paris was interrupted by a tragic incident. In Venice, assistant director Diego Borella suddenly passed away while working on set. He was only 47 years old.
The incident occurred at the legendary Hotel Danieli, where the crew was preparing to shoot the final scene of Season 5. According to La Repubblica, Borella collapsed after losing consciousness unexpectedly. Emergency medical services arrived on the scene and attempted to resuscitate him, but were unsuccessful. Doctors pronounced him dead at the scene, with preliminary reports citing sudden cardiac arrest as the cause.
Paramount Television Studios officially confirmed Borella’s death and extended condolences to his family and loved ones.
Production was immediately halted. However, the team later resumed work: lead actress Lily Collins and co-star Eugenio Franceschini were spotted filming a scene in a water taxi in Venice.
Diego Borella was born in Venice. Over the course of his career, he worked in Rome, London, and New York, engaging not only in film but also in literature. Colleagues described him as a consummate professional and a supportive team member.
Filming for the fifth season of Emily in Paris began in May in Rome, continued in Paris, and has been taking place in Venice since August. Despite the tragedy, the season premiere remains scheduled for December 18, 2025.
