The Maltin Modern Master Award ceremony, named after film critic Leonard Maltin, took place recently. This award aims to honor actors who have «enriched culture with their achievements in the film industry».
The event was held as part of the 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival and was attended by many stars, including Angelina Jolie. That evening, the 49-year-old actress received the highest honor for her role in the biopic Maria, which tells the story of one of the world’s most famous opera singers, Maria Callas, and her tumultuous life in 1970s Paris.
Despite receiving critical acclaim for her performance in the film, Jolie did not make it onto the list of nominees for the 2025 Academy Awards. This was a significant disappointment for the actress, who had worked tirelessly on the film.
