Amanda Seyfried Opens Up About Mental Health

In an Interview with Vogue
Forty-year-old Amanda Seyfried is the cover star of Vogue’s January issue. The actress appears in looks by Dior, Valentino, and Chloé, and in the interview speaks candidly about obsessive-compulsive disorder and why family matters more to her than career.

Seyfried recalled that she has lived for many years with a severe form of obsessive-compulsive disorder. She noted that she has to «give credit» to her diagnosis, as in some ways it «protected» her from certain pitfalls early in her career. At a younger age, when many of her peers were leading vibrant nightlife-filled lives and struggling with depression and addictions, Seyfried sometimes could not even leave the house.

«I would make plans and then simply not go anywhere. I think I was making that choice consciously… I didn’t end up in the world of night parties. I have to give credit to my OCD,» she said.

Now that Amanda Seyfried is a global star, she prioritizes her family over work. The actress lives on a country estate near New York with her husband, Thomas Sadoski, whom she married in 2017, and their two children.

«It’s a privilege I have at this stage of my career,» she explained. «Now I can say, «Listen, I’ll do this job, but… I have to sleep with my kids on Friday night, on Saturday, and on Sunday — I have to go to bed with them.» That’s my one rule. Maybe it helps them, but it definitely helps me.»
