Actress Hunter Schafer had her gender changed in documents due to Trump’s order

Not of her own will
Transgender American actress Hunter Schafer, known for her role in Euphoria, shared on TikTok that she received a passport with a changed gender after Donald Trump began his presidential term.
Schafer lost her passport while filming in Barcelona — her bag was stolen during a car break-in. She applied for new documents and requested that her passport indicate her female gender. However, her request was denied.
This was due to an executive order Trump signed on his first day in office, requiring the recognition of only a person’s sex assigned at birth. In Schafer’s case, that was male. As a result, her new passport listed that gender.
Schafer admitted that she didn’t believe they would issue her male-identifying documents until it actually happened.
«I’m not exactly sure what changed in terms of processing (the documents), but this is the first time this has happened to me since I changed my gender marker,» the actress noted.
She added that she «doesn’t care» about the passport marker but acknowledged that it “makes life a little more complicated.”
«I don’t have an answer for what to do about it, but I feel like it’s important to share,» Schafer admitted.
For reference, Schafer is one of the most well-known transgender figures in the U.S. She is currently 26 years old and has been identifying as a woman and using female pronouns for nearly a decade.
