She Was 71
American actress Catherine O’Hara has died at the age of 71. As her manager told Variety, she passed away on January 30 at her home in Los Angeles «after a brief illness.» She is survived by her husband, Bob Welch, with whom she shared 33 years of marriage, and their two sons, Matthew and Luke.

Catherine O’Hara began her career in the 1970s on the Canadian comedy television show Second City Television, which earned her her first Emmy Award. Major film projects soon followed, including the thriller After Hours and Tim Burton’s cult classic Beetlejuice. However, worldwide fame came with her role as Kate McCallister — Kevin’s mother — in the Home Alone film series.
Among Catherine O’Hara’s most recent notable projects were her roles in the comedy series Schitt’s Creek and The Studio.
