Actor Mickey Rourke faces the risk of losing his home
Here’s why
Actor Mickey Rourke, best known for his roles in Nine ½ Weeks, The Wrestler and Sin City, has found himself in serious financial trouble. In December 2025, the 73-year-old actor was served with an official eviction notice after accumulating approximately $59,000 in unpaid rent.
According to court documents, Rourke signed a lease for a three-bedroom house in March 2025. The original monthly rent was set at $5,200 but was later increased to $7,000. Unable to meet his financial obligations on time, the actor fell behind on payments, prompting the property owner to file a lawsuit seeking repayment of the debt, reimbursement of legal fees, and termination of the lease.
In an effort to help Rourke avoid eviction, his alleged girlfriend and member of his management team, Lia-Joelle Jones, launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe. The initiative, titled Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home, went live on January 4, 2026. Organizers aim to raise $100,000 – an amount intended to cover outstanding rent as well as related housing expenses.
So far, the campaign has already secured a substantial portion of the target sum, with tens of thousands of dollars donated by fans and concerned supporters.
Rourke himself, however, has responded ambivalently. In a video posted on his Instagram account, the actor stated that he would never ask fans for financial assistance. He described the GoFundMe campaign as humiliating, stressing that he would rather deal with his difficulties on his own. He also urged those who had already donated to request refunds.
«This has absolutely nothing to do with me, got it?» he said. «If I ever needed money, I would never ask for charity. I’d sooner choose the most extreme alternative than subject myself to that kind of humiliation».
Whether Lia-Joelle Jones is indeed the actor’s partner – or whether she may have acted fraudulently – remains an open question.
Previously, Rourke had already drawn public attention due to noticeable changes in his appearance. In early January, he was spotted near his Los Angeles home with a shaved head and a markedly gaunt face. Many fans and media outlets remarked that the actor appeared almost unrecognizable compared to his former self.
It appears that Rourke is currently going through a particularly difficult period in his life. In 2025, he was also removed from the British reality show Celebrity Big Brother UK following a series of incidents.
