Dakota Johnson on a new chapter, motherhood and Hollywood in Vogue interview

Dakota Johnson is the cover star of Vogue’s October issue. The Hollywood actress opened up about a period of change in her life as she enters her 36th year.
Following the end of her eight-year relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Johnson has moved into a new home in Los Angeles, is focusing on her work and her production company and admits that she now wants to approach her priorities somewhat differently.
Johnson revealed that after nearly 20 years of working constantly on film sets, she began to feel that it was time to slow down a little. But her desire for a different pace is not simply the result of professional exhaustion. For the first time, the actress spoke openly about motherhood and her wish to have a family of her own.
«Things haven’t worked out the way I thought they would. I really want children. I didn’t expect to find myself here at this age and at this stage of my life. But maybe that’s the universe’s plan. I hope I’ll be lucky», the star shared.
At the same time, the actress does not see her situation as something to regret: «It’s okay. I’m continuing to learn more and more and becoming a more whole woman.»
Despite wanting to slow down, Johnson has no plans to step away from filmmaking altogether. One of her important projects is «Three Incestuous Sisters», directed by Alice Rohrwacher, in which she stars alongside Saoirse Ronan, Jessie Buckley and Josh O’Connor.
The film was shot on the Italian island of Stromboli. Dakota describes the experience as «deeply soulful and creative» and says it was exactly how she had always imagined working in film — as a safe space where artists can be free and experiment.
Another project is the thriller «Verity», based on Colleen Hoover’s novel. Johnson stars alongside Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett.
The actress revealed that director Michael Showalter encouraged her to embrace an unusual, almost theatrical approach to her performance.
«It was so much fun, and our reference points and sources of inspiration were erotic thrillers that you watch and think, “This is ridiculous” — but at the same time, you’re incredibly intrigued», she recalled.
Johnson also spoke about her public image. She has long been known as a calm and somewhat reserved woman who can respond to journalists with a touch of irony. The actress explained that this behavior became a kind of defense mechanism against constant public attention.
In reality, she says, she is far from as detached as she may appear.
«I care very deeply about a lot of things. I wouldn’t say I’m “cool”. What does that even mean? I just want to be real», the actress added.
