«Miss Austria» Lucia Sisic dies at 22: what is known about the tragedy

She underwent seven heart surgeries

Lucia Sisic, the reigning «Miss Austria», has died suddenly at the age of 22.

According to «Kronen Zeitung», Lucia had suffered from serious heart problems since birth — she was diagnosed with a congenital heart valve defect. She underwent her first open-heart surgery shortly after she was born. In total, the young woman underwent seven surgical procedures during her short life. Her most recent operation took place in the winter of 2026.

Despite her serious diagnosis, Sisic continued to lead an active life and remained in the public eye. She worked as a model, attended social events and carried out her duties as a beauty queen.

Lucia won the «Miss Austria» title in 2024. She remained the reigning titleholder until her death, as no new beauty pageants were held in Austria after her coronation.

Lucia was born in Vienna in 2004 to a family with roots in the Bosanska Posavina region of northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Despite her serious health problems, she continued to share glimpses of her life on social media.

The exact circumstances of her death remain unknown. Austrian media report that her death was sudden, with cardiac arrest among the possible causes being considered. However, this information has not yet been officially confirmed.
