He was 80
British actor Tim Curry, best known for his iconic roles in «The Rocky Horror Picture Show», «It» and «Home Alone 2: Lost in New York», has died at the age of 80. The actor died late on August 25 at his home in Los Angeles following health complications.
Curry’s life changed dramatically in 2012 after he suffered a stroke. He lost the ability to speak normally, became wheelchair-bound and largely withdrew from public life, TMZ reports.
Over a career spanning nearly six decades, Curry portrayed dozens of diverse characters. One of the defining roles of his career was Dr. Frank-N-Furter in «The Rocky Horror Picture Show». The part brought him international fame and made him a cultural icon.
For another generation of viewers, Curry was remembered in a very different role. In «Home Alone 2: Lost in New York», he played an eccentric hotel concierge.
Another of Curry’s most memorable performances was Pennywise in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s «It». His terrifying portrayal of the clown went on to become one of the most recognizable characters in horror.
Curry’s career extended far beyond film and television. He was also a prolific stage performer and voice actor. He received three Tony Award nominations for his work on Broadway.
