Giorgio Armani’s family declines to participate in the fashion designer’s biopic

Official Statement
Giorgio Armani’s family and the Armani Group have officially announced that they are not involved in the production of the biographical film «Armani: King of Fashion» and did not authorize its development. The company emphasized that although it is aware of the project, it has not participated in its development or production and does not support the independent film.
Despite the statement, work on the biopic is continuing. The film is directed by two-time Palme d’Or winner Bille August, best known for «Pelle the Conqueror», «The Best Intentions», and «The Count of Monte Cristo». The producer is Andrea Iervolino, who previously worked on «Ferrari», while the screenplay is being written by Academy Award winner Bobby Moresco.

The biopic will explore Giorgio Armani’s professional journey and his rise to become one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th and 21st centuries. It remains unclear whether the filmmakers will also focus on his private life. Throughout his lifetime, Armani carefully guarded his privacy, leaving that chapter of his biography largely unknown to the public.
The Armani Group’s statement came as a surprise, as films of this scale are often produced with the involvement of the subject’s family or official representatives. At the same time, this is not an isolated case in the film industry. «House of Gucci», for example, was also made without the approval of the Gucci family’s heirs.

Giorgio Armani founded his namesake brand in 1975 together with his business partner, Sergio Galeotti. He transformed the traditional men’s suit by making it lighter, softer, and less formal, forever reshaping the concept of modern elegance. Over the years, Armani evolved into a global luxury empire encompassing not only fashion collections and the Armani Privé haute couture line, but also beauty products, interior design, luxury hotels, and other lifestyle ventures.
As a reminder, Giorgio Armani passed away on September 4, 2025, at the age of 91. Following his death, the fashion house has continued to operate according to the long-term strategy the designer established during his lifetime.
