Barry Keoghan deletes social media amid online bullying over his appearance

The dark side of fame
Irish actor Barry Keoghan, known for projects such as «Saltburn», «Chernobyl», and «Peaky Blinders», has candidly revealed that following his rise to fame, he faced a wave of harsh online hate. Due to constant insults about his appearance, the actor chose to delete his social media accounts and withdraw from public life – even to the point of rarely leaving his home.

Keoghan spoke about this on the «The Morning Mash Up» radio show. According to the actor, online bullying has long crossed the line of decency and has become a serious challenge:
«There’s a lot of hate online. I get heavily criticized for my appearance, and it’s too much. You know, everyone goes through it, but this kind of treatment has made me avoid the public eye. It’s made me withdraw – I don’t want to go places or even step outside».

The 33-year-old actor noted that although he deleted his social media pages, he occasionally still checks them to see audience reactions after premieres. However, he says most comments still focus not on his acting, but on his looks.
According to the star, such pressure negatively affects not only his emotional well-being but also his work:
«When it starts seeping into your art, it becomes a problem – because you don’t even want to appear on screen anymore».
