«I was afraid of being alone»: Jennifer Lopez on loneliness after her divorce from Ben Affleck

American singer and actress Jennifer Lopez has spoken openly for the first time about life after her divorce from actor Ben Affleck. The star shared her reflections on loneliness and admitted that she is currently going through an entirely new chapter in her life. For the first time in many years, she allowed herself to pause and rethink her life, the artist revealed in a segment of an interview for the morning show Good Morning America.
«I’m in my happy era. I think for the first time in my life I truly feel free. I’m just on my own. And that feels really good. I always thought I couldn’t be without a relationship. I was very afraid of being alone», Lopez admitted.
According to the 56-year-old star, she has spent most of her adult life in relationships, making this period a completely new experience for her.
«I actually didn’t know what that was like anymore – since my twenties, and even earlier. I always had someone in my life. There was always someone there, and so many things felt like they were out of my control. I’ve reached a point where I truly trust myself and appreciate myself a little more instead of being so hard on myself», the singer shared.
After the breakup with Affleck, the star decided to take a pause not only in relationships but also in her career. She even stepped back from several professional commitments to spend time alone with herself.
«I had to stop everything and take a year off. I just wanted to be alone and understand what was happening to me», the artist recalled.
According to Lopez, this period helped her look at her life from a new perspective, and now she is not rushing into new romances.
«God forbid I jump back into all those romances again. I’m happy. I’m healthy. I’m grateful for every experience and surrounded by the love of my family», she emphasized.
For context, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck first met in 2001. Their relationship quickly became one of the most talked-about love stories in Hollywood. The couple were once engaged but never made it down the aisle. Nearly twenty years later, they reunited and officially married in 2022.
