Emperor Franz Joseph’s uniform sold at auction for €110,500

A hefty sum!
At the «Imperial House» auction held by Vienna’s Dorotheum auction house, the field marshal uniform of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph was sold for €110,500 — more than twice the estimated price of €30,000 — €50,000.
The uniform was a so-called Campagne-Attila — a field version of the Hungarian military attire. It was worn by Austrian officers, including the Emperor himself. The jacket is known for its distinctive style: short, fitted, and decorated with ornamental cords across the chest.
In addition to the uniform, several personal belongings of the Emperor and his wife Empress Elisabeth were also sold. Among them: Franz Joseph’s slippers for €16,900, Elisabeth’s parasol for €16,900, and a mourning fan hand-painted by their daughter, Maria Valerie, for €26,000.
According to Dorotheum, interest in the belongings of the Habsburg family remains consistently high — they attract collectors, museums, and history enthusiasts alike.
