Barry Keoghan opens up about his struggle with drug addiction for the first time

New details about his personal life
Irish actor and «Saltburn» star Barry Keoghan has openly spoken about his battle with drug addiction for the first time. In a new interview with «Hollywood Authentic», the 32-year-old actor shared personal details about his addiction and how he has been coping with it.
Keoghan recalled losing his mother at the age of 12 due to her ongoing heroin use. Later, his father died in a similar way, followed by two uncles and a cousin. Despite this, the actor admitted he himself fell into addiction:
«I no longer deny it. I’ve realized I’m a drug addict. And when you admit that – you can finally move on and learn how to live with it», he said.
The actor noted that even the birth of his son Brando in 2022 didn’t stop him from using drugs, and moving to Hollywood only intensified the pressure:
«Even the birth of my son didn’t stop me from being curious about it. Life in Los Angeles is different – it can be both good and destructive».
Explaining his decision to speak publicly about his addiction, Keoghan emphasized the importance of showing his background and personal journey. He said he’s proud of the path he’s taken and wants people in the film industry to understand that this topic matters.
