Lady Gaga draws 2.5 million fans at free concert in Rio de Janeiro

Terrorist plot nearly derailed the show
Lady Gaga gave a historic performance in Brazil — her free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro became the biggest of her career and set a new world record, attracting around 2.5 million people.
The event not only impressed with its scale but is also expected to bring major economic benefits to the city. According to preliminary estimates, the concert generated over 100 million dollars in revenue for Rio, which is 30% more than Madonna’s show last year.
However, the celebration nearly turned into tragedy. On the eve of the concert, law enforcement foiled a terrorist attempt — members of a radical group were detained as they planned to detonate explosives and use Molotov cocktails during the performance. Brazilian police conducted searches in several cities and arrested the perpetrators, including the group’s leader and a teenager involved in planning the attack.
After the concert, Lady Gaga shared her emotions on social media. She thanked fans for the warm welcome, posting a heartfelt message and a series of photos from the stage.
The artist expressed her gratitude for the support and called the performance in Rio a historic moment she will never forget.
«It was pride, joy, and happiness to sing for you, Brazil. Your hearts shine, your culture is incredible. Thank you for this moment. I love you,» Gaga wrote, addressing her fans, whom she traditionally calls her «little monsters.»
