Robert De Niro publicly responded to his son’s gender transition
The star’s first comment
Aaron, the son of Hollywood movie star Robert De Niro, has announced his gender transition – the 29-year-old publicly came out as a transgender woman. Irene – De Niro’s descendant’s new name – shared in an interview with Them that she had long felt like a stranger in her own body, especially when noticing how different she was from her family members, who were all either slim or athletic. According to Irene, she felt like a «black sheep».
The reaction from the famous father was not long in coming. In a comment to People, De Niro said he responded positively to his 29-year-old son’s decision to become a woman and supported his child in this step.
According to the actor, he now loves his daughter Irene just as much as he loved his son Aaron.
«I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Irene as my daughter. I don’t see what the issue is. I love all my children», emphasized 81-year-old Robert.
It’s worth noting that in addition to Irene, De Niro has six other children, the youngest being 2-year-old daughter Gia.
