«Bridgerton» star condemns J.K. Rowling over support for new law

Regarding transgender women
The UK Supreme Court recently ruled that the definition of «woman» in the Equality Act is based on biological sex, and that transgender women should not be considered women under the law. The decision sparked mixed reactions — some criticized it, while others voiced their support.
Among the critics is 38-year-old Irish actress Nicola Coughlan, known for her role in the hit Netflix series «Bridgerton». She publicly condemned British author and Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling for supporting the court’s decision and for her repeated negative statements about the LGBTQ+ community.
Following the ruling, 59-year-old Rowling shared a post on X, featuring a celebratory photo of her smoking a cigar and holding a drink.

«I love it when a plan comes together,» Rowling wrote.
In response, Coughlan posted a story on Instagram sharing an article from The Cut, captioned: «Leave your new boyfriends over Harry Potter,» referring to the upcoming HBO series that will adapt each of the seven Harry Potter books into individual seasons.
The actress also stated that she would not be watching the new series due to Rowling’s stance on transgender people, especially since Rowling is actively involved in the production of the new HBO project.
Coughlan went on to express her solidarity with the trans community by posting a support video. She said she is «completely horrified» by the news and announced a fundraiser for the UK charity Not A Phase, which supports transgender individuals.
