Rick Owens opens exhibition at Paris’ Palais Galliera

Opening June 28
On June 28, 2025, Rick Owens will unveil a large-scale exhibition at the Palais Galliera in Paris, titled Temple of Love. It will be the designer’s first retrospective in six years, according to WWD.
The exhibition will feature a recreated version of Rick’s California bedroom, which he shared with his wife, Michèle Lamy, as well as 30 brutalist-style concrete sculptures. In addition, over 100 archival fashion pieces, documents, videos, installations, and artworks from his personal collection will be showcased.

Owens’ last major exhibition took place at Milan’s Triennale Museum from 2017 to 2018 and was titled Rick Owens: Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman.
This year also marks the 30th anniversary of Owens’ eponymous brand, which he launched in the U.S. in 1994. In 2001, fashion editor Anna Wintour noticed the unconventional newcomer — she featured Kate Moss in a Rick Owens jacket and helped organize his debut at New York Fashion Week. This marked the start of Owens’ rise in the fashion industry, and just a year later, he moved to Paris. His signature style — sculptural forms, deconstruction, and a dark, monochrome palette — was already taking shape.
Back in Los Angeles, Owens met artist and designer Michèle Lamy. She immediately saw a kindred spirit in him and hired him as a creative partner for her own brand. Despite the significant age difference, their connection quickly evolved into both a romantic and professional relationship. Lamy has since become Owens’ constant muse, inspiration, partner, and collaborator.

Beyond developing his own label, Rick Owens is also known for his successful collaborations: he designed unconventional sandals for Birkenstock, teamed up with Dr. Martens, Converse, and Veja, celebrated Champion’s centennial with a sporty capsule collection, and even customized a truck for Moncler — not to mention their joint collection of iconic down jackets.
Like many true creatives, Owens doesn’t limit himself to fashion. He also has a line of avant-garde interior design pieces. Though he credits much of this work to his wife Michèle Lamy, calling her the «driving creative force,» the Rick Owens furniture line reflects the same spirit as his clothing — noble natural materials, deconstructed forms, dramatic proportions, and gothic elements like oversized horns.
