Actress Bella Ramsey diagnosed with autism

21-year-old British actress Bella Ramsey recently revealed in an interview with Vogue magazine that she was diagnosed with autism during the filming of the debut season of the apocalyptic drama The Last of Us.

The star claims that she always felt «weird» and noticed behavioral issues typical of people with autism. Later, signs of the neurodevelopmental disorder also became apparent to one of her co-stars, as his daughter has the same psychological condition. Eventually, Bella underwent an examination, which confirmed her diagnosis.

Despite some challenges, the actress notes that autism does not negatively affect her quality of life and even has a positive impact on her acting skills. She considers it a kind of «liberation», as the disorder has helped her better understand herself and made her more attentive to others.

«The diagnosis allows me to go through the world with a lot of self-compassion because I can’t perform simple everyday tasks that others seem to manage easily. I’ve always observed people and learned from them. The need to learn manually how to communicate and interact with others has helped me in my acting», Ramsey said.
