Iconic director David Lynch has passed away

From lung emphysema
Director and screenwriter David Lynch has died at the age of 78, as reported by Variety. Later, his family confirmed the news of his passing.
«With deep sorrow, we announce the death of David Lynch, a remarkable person and artist. The world now has a large hole with him no longer among us. But, as he would say: «Focus on the doughnut, not the hole.»
David Lynch’s family also requested privacy during this time of grief.
It is worth noting that in 2020, the director was diagnosed with lung emphysema, a condition characterized by the enlargement of alveoli due to the destruction of their walls.
In the fall of 2024, Lynch admitted that he had not left his home in a long time and could not move around the house without an oxygen mask. California wildfires forced him to leave his residence, and his health significantly deteriorated in the final week.
The lung disease developed due to prolonged smoking, a habit Lynch picked up at the age of eight.
«I have no regrets. It was important to me. I wish, like any addict, that the things we love could be good for us,» Lynch once said about his addiction.
Many of Lynch’s films are known for their unique style, full of surrealism, absurdity, and paradoxical philosophy. He redefined television with Twin Peaks, a mystical detective series where solving the mystery was not the main focus. Two seasons and a feature film prequel, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992), were released. In 2017, viewers saw the final third season of the series.
Lynch also directed a number of mystical thrillers with enigmatic plots that defy easy interpretation and a striking visual style, such as Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, and Lost Highway. He was behind the first adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune, the absurdist horror Eraserhead, the biographical drama The Elephant Man, and many other works.
Throughout his career, the filmmaker was nominated for multiple Oscars and received an honorary award for his achievements in 2019.
