Tilda Swinton to receive the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival

For her contribution to cinema
British actress Tilda Swinton will be honored with the prestigious Golden Bear at the 75th Berlin Film Festival. The 64-year-old actress will receive the award during the opening ceremony at the Berlinale Palast on February 13, 2025. The Berlin Film Festival will recognize the actress for her outstanding achievements in cinema, Deadline reported.
«The range of Tilda’s work is breathtaking. She brings so much humanity, compassion, intellect, humor, and style to her films, expanding our understanding of the world», said festival director Tricia Tuttle, describing Tilda as an icon and a member of the Berlinale family.

The Golden Bear will be a significant accolade for Swinton, who has had a long-standing connection with the Berlin Film Festival. In 2009, she served as the head of the international jury and appeared in 26 films featured in the festival’s program, including Caravaggio, The Beach (2000), Derek (2008), Julia (2008), The Garden (1991), and Last and First Men (2020).
Tilda shared her thoughts on receiving the honor, expressing that it is a great privilege for her. She also revealed that the Berlinale was the first film festival she ever attended.

«The Berlinale was the first film festival I ever visited, in 1986 with Derek Jarman and his debut film Caravaggio. It was my gateway into the world where I would pursue the work of my life – the world of filmmaking – and I have never forgotten how indebted I am to it. To be granted such an honor by this festival is deeply moving to me», Swinton commented.
